F is for Felix

atoz2012
My A to Z blogging theme is characters in (people from) the scriptures. Since my blog is a book blog, this theme would fit right in and help me strengthen a weakness at the same. How fantastic is that?!  This challenge is a blessing. Thank you A to Z Challenge team!  *Book: LDS quad combo scriptures: KJV Holy Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, Pearl of Great Price. (p)1989, (c)1979.

Felix as procurator (an agent representing others in a court of law in countries retaining Roman civil law, Google) took advantage of his position and accepted bribes.  When the Apostle Paul was brought to him, Felix thought he would be able to get money.  Instead, Paul teaches him of righteousness, temperance, and the judgment to come.  Felix kept Paul in prison even after he was succeeded as procurator as a favor to the Jews (Paul had already been imprisoned for 2yrs).

Sounds like Felix was a sly man.  --Find his story in Acts 23-24.

From the Bible Dictionary:

Felix. Procurator of Judaea at the time of Paul’s arrest by the Roman military authorities (Acts 23:24). He investigated the case and heard Paul speak in his own defense (Acts 24), but put off giving any decision, his reason being that he had “more exact knowledge concerning the Way,” i.e., he knew more about the case and about Christianity than the prosecutors had told him. He hoped Paul would have offered him some bribe; but none being offered on his recall from Palestine, he left the apostle still in prison.

  1. Great choice, Jinky. Just wish bribes had disappeared. When a long-time friend's son married, she wanted me give him a considerable amount of cash as a wedding gift, with a rather up-front message that if I didn't the friendship was over. I didn't give the money, and we haven't seen each other in several years now. At first, I was VERY hurt about it all, even if I realized a friendship based on money really wasn't a friendship.

  2. Sorry Kittie! What an awful thing he did on you. I'd be hurt too.
